But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, sladerous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God--having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. 2 Timothy 3:1-5

88 Reasons that Christ Will Return in 1988 is the clever title of a pamphlet I still have in my files. The title didn't quite have the bite it once did after January 1, 1989. I keep it as an illustration of the limitations we humans face when we try to predict the future. We ought to be very humble and cautious about our prophetic abilities. There will always be someone who claims to know something you don't know--a Witness or Latter Day Saint or TV evangelist with 3 rings who knows Jesus is coming in the next month or two and please send money to help get the word out... So there will always be a need for Christians who can handle correctly the word of truth and avoid godleess chatter (2 Tim. 2:15-16).

But we are warned that the future will hold some terrible times to live through. So let's don't be surprised. God's people can keep calm and carry on with His help.
